Welcome to Prairie City

Prairie City, Oregon; a small, quiet and quaint town in Eastern Oregon.

It's small town charm has won the hearts of hundreds who have visited and those of course of the natives. It sits at the base of The Strawberry Mountain Range-which views are some the best. But we may be a little bias. There are many trails, campsites and other outdoor activities to enjoy while you are here. Head to the Prairie City Ranger District for more information.

Prairie City grew from a former mining camp in 1862 and eventually the Sumpter Valley Railroad etched it's way through in 1907; helping the economy grow even more. It carried passengers as well as freight shipped by ranchers, mining interests, and timber companies until its piecemeal abandonment in the 1930's.

If you are interested in more of the history of the town, we recommend going to The Depot Park.

Prairie City has a small population with the approx. amount being 920 people. A perfect place to escape the noise and enjoy the quiet.
